Ukraine Says Path to ‘Honourable Peace’ Lies Solely With Russia, Zelensky Declares

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine deserves an “honourable peace,” asserting that its achievement now depends entirely on Russia. He urged stronger international pressure and insisted Moscow must be held accountable for daily attacks, ongoing terror against civilians, and the broader war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asserted that the possibility of achieving what he called an “honourable peace” depends entirely on Russia, stressing that Kyiv and its international partners remain committed to securing a just end to the war. Speaking in Kyiv, Zelensky underscored that Ukraine has earned the right to a peace settlement rooted in dignity and accountability, and warned that Moscow must face consequences for its continued attacks.

Zelensky said that the future of any peace process now rests in Russia’s hands. According to him, the combined diplomatic pressure exerted by Ukraine, the United States, Europe, and other allied nations will determine whether meaningful negotiations can take shape. He emphasised that the strength of the international community’s negotiating position is central to countering Moscow’s aggression.

The Ukrainian leader accused Russia of perpetuating a cycle of violence through relentless strikes on Ukrainian cities and civilian areas. He insisted that Moscow must be held answerable not only for its daily assaults but also for what he described as the broader campaign of terror inflicted on the Ukrainian population since the conflict began. Accountability, he noted, is a non-negotiable component of any future settlement.

Zelensky’s remarks come as international efforts to revive diplomatic engagement continue, with Western partners reinforcing military, economic, and political support for Kyiv. For Ukraine, the president suggested, peace must ensure security, justice, and recognition of the suffering its citizens have endured.

As the war shows no sign of immediate resolution, Zelensky’s message underscores a firm stance: Ukraine seeks peace, but only one grounded in respect and responsibility—an outcome he maintains is achievable only if Russia chooses to change course.
